The arms & magic loop

Brace yourself. It's time. Time to learn the magic loop. Pick up the green yarn and watch this tutorial:

Magic loop giving you trouble? Try this easier chain 2 method instead. It'll probably leave you with a hole in the middle, but that's OK – you gotta do what you gotta do to make a circle.

Whether you made a circle using the magic loop or chain method, give yourself a pat on the back for finishing Round 1.

Now that you've gotten lots of practice crocheting the single crochet and half double crochet stitches, you're going to get a crash course in a lot of new stitches:

Grab your magic loop earlier and let's make the rest of the first arm:

Round 2: 4 inc  (8)
Rounds 3-4: sc, 2 dc, sc, 4 sl st  (8)
Round 5: 8 sc  (8)

Invisible fasten off leaving a long tail. Stuff lightly.

Tip

Since the arms are so small, it can be easier to work with if you stuff them with scrap pieces of yarn instead of stuffing.

Thread a needle with the tail. Use it to sew the arms onto either side of the cactus body, spanning rounds 8 to 10. The arms should curve up.
