Nico is the third Wooble I’ve made and my favorite so far! The video instructions were clear and easy to follow; however, I’d recommend placing the eyes between rounds 6 and 7 (as shown on the packaging) instead of between rounds 5 and 6 (as the videos suggest). This is what I did, and I think it gives Nico a cuter look. I also used the packaging photo as a guide for where I sewed the embroidered bits.
I was disappointed, though, that the videos didn’t explain how to attach the tail so that it curls around the body as shown on the packaging. Instead, they instruct attaching it so that it sticks straight out, which looks awkward and keeps Nico from sitting up on his own.
So, using the same technique used for Pierre the Penguin’s wings, I came up with an alternative way to attach the tail that I want to share:
1. Don’t crochet the final round (round 10) of the tail. If you have already, pull on your working yarn to undo that round, keeping track of the number of stitches you’re undoing.
2. Now you’re going to crochet the opening of the tail closed. This will end up looking like the final round (round 10). You can find a tutorial for this titled “Single crochet opposite sides of a piece together” on The Woobles’ YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrnR1uqoSFQ. In short, round 9 of the tail piece leaves you with 6 V’s around the rim. Single crochet opposite V’s together until you’re left with 3 V’s across (not counting the fasten off). Fasten off and leave about an 8-inch yarn tail.
3. Sew the closed tail onto the body vertically, starting just below and centered with the last stripe. This is done exactly as explained in the “Sew on a 3D piece” videos, just in a straight line instead. Stop just before you would hide the yarn tail inside the body.
4. To secure the tail to the body, insert the needle into the body and bring it out a few stitches farther down the side where you want the tail. Then insert the needle into the tail at the point where it meets the yarn tail, bringing it out one stitch closer to the end of the tail. Repeat this process, weaving the body to the tail until it feels secure. Finish off by hiding the yarn tail inside the body.
I really enjoyed crocheting Nico! He was fun and easy to make, and the instructions to the kit were clear and easy to understand. I liked that I had a bunch of extra yarn to crochet another Nico with! I did notice a little bit of discoloring on the tan yarn around round 6, but I was able to cover it up. Otherwise, great kit!!!
If I think that Nico is just so cute. When you finish him and he gave me a lot of joy and my best friend who I gave him to honestly.I think that he is very, very creative in the way of like making him and his design.He is just super cute and very authentic in the way that you guys made him.And I think he would be a great present for any cat lover
This is my first ever time crocheting but it turned out so cute! The video instructions were really easy to follow which made the entire process fun and not frustrating at all (unlike most other craft kits that I’ve bought in the past)
