Overcoming Creative Hurdles: Meet Greg Mahan
Have you ever had a hobby that seemed just out of reach no matter how much you tried to learn it? For Greg Mahan, that hobby was crochet. Despite trying various video tutorials and beginner kits, Greg struggled to get the hang of this craft. That is until he discovered The Woobles. In this Meet the Maker Q&A, Greg shares how The Woobles helped him check off his bucket list and become a crochet enthusiast. From his favorite Wooble to what he does with his finished projects, Greg offers insights into the joys of crochet, and encourages others to give it a try.
What got you hooked on crochet?
Greg: I've done many crafts in my life, and crochet was always on the bucket list. But I was never able to learn to crochet on my own.
How did you come across The Woobles? What encouraged you to try it out?
Greg: I tried to crochet with generic video tutorials, but they all seemed to leave out critical details for beginners. Then I bought a bunch of "beginner kits", but all of them seemed to assume "beginner" still meant "some level of knowledge". I was about to give up when I saw a Facebook ad for The Woobles that promoted that they had taught (at the time) 50,000 people to crochet. The price wasn't bad, so I thought "well, if this doesn't work, nothing will", and bought Felix the Fox. After making him twice, I was hooked.
What’s your favorite Wooble?
Greg: Emilio the Turtle. He's so cute! Here's a photo of him chilling near the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland 😃
What do you do with your finished crochet projects?
Greg: I tend to give them away to friends and family. Part of the joy is to make fun little projects that others will cherish.
What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about trying to learn to crochet?
Greg: It's fun and easy! Once you learn a few basic techniques, you can follow patterns to make just about anything!
Overall, Greg's experience of learning to crochet with The Woobles was a rewarding one. His dedication and love for the craft only grew with time, as he went from simple projects to more complex ones. Now that he has completed all the beginner levels and mastered different patterns, he gives away his finished crochet projects as gifts to some very lucky people. If you too want to add crochet to your bucket list, then why not give it a shot? Embrace your creativity by trying out our beginner-friendly crochet kits and take advantage of all the tools offered by The Woobles. As Greg says, "It's fun and easy!”
