Theย back

It's time to learn how to start a crochet piece all by yourself! Patterns for round things (like hats and amigurumi), often start with a "magic loop" with some number of stitches in it. It's one of the trickiest techniques in crochet.

Since this is your first go at crocheting, you might want to try this other method instead. It's called crocheting into a center ring:

Still have a hole in the middle of your ring, no matter how tight you make your chain stitches? Try making a center ring with only 3 chain stitches. Still have a hole in the middle? If you're up for the challenge, try the magic loop method instead.

Whether you made a circle using a center ring or magic loop, give yourself a pat on the back for finishing Round 1. The rest of the pattern for the ear pattern should look familiar to you:

Roundย 1: 6 sc in magic loop (6)
Round 2:
inc x 6 (12)
Round 3:
[sc,ย inc] x 6 (18)
