TheΒ brim

Now, we're going to make the brim still using the white yarn:

Make a foundation chain of 13 chain stitches, abbreviated "ch 13":

Crochet 12 sc into this foundation chain. Where you put your hook for this first row after a foundation is a little different from how you crochet in rounds, so watch carefully:

To be able to keep crocheting once you hit the end of the row, you'll need to do what's called a chain 1 and turn, abbreviated "ch 1 and turn":

Here's what you just did, written in pattern form:

Row 1:Β ch 13Β  (13)
Row 2: starting from the second ch from theΒ hook, 12 sc, ch 1 and turnΒ  (12)

And it's smooth sailing from here! Crochet a few more rows:

Row 3: [3 sc, inc] x 3, ch 1 and turnΒ  (15)
Row 4: [2 sc, inc] x 5Β  (20)

When you're done fasten off and leave a long tail.
