The whip stitch

Fasten off and thread a needle with the tail and whip stitch both sides together:

Line up row 1 and row 3 back-to-back, and tuck the other tail inside the broomstick. Then whip stitch together each sc in row 3 with the remaining foundation chain loop across from it in row 1.
